Engineering & Recording
Knowing how to collect high quality material at the source and maintain that quality throughout a signal chain is key to keeping a recording as strong as it was at the performance level. I always keep this in mind while manipulating the signal throughout the process.
Production
Developing a piece to deliver the energy and intention behind it is a focus in my productions, elevating performances to their most powerful forms and recapturing that feeling of hearing a performance ‘in the room’ that doesn’t translate into a recording inherently.
Mixing
Balancing elements of a production and ensuring each hits the listener as intended is essential to professional material. My philosophy is to approach each part of a piece with the attention it deserves, not settling on static processing or templates.
Mastering
Having a sound meet industry standards is a necessity for a professional project, and ensuring consistent and considered playback across any device and listening environment ensures audience hear the intended result.
Composition
With over a decade of experience writing music, I’ve written pieces in a wide range of styles, including scoring films and video games. I consider expression through the arrangement and forms of a piece itself as important as the style and tones of a piece when it comes to fitting a narrative or aesthetic.
Sound Design
Creating and manipulating sounds for effects, story telling or just character within a piece is a process that can easily be completed to an expected or conventional result, but I find that thoughtfully undertaking this process with a vision relating to the project can add a great deal of character to any project.
Film Post-Production
Sound production on film can often be looked at as a very matter-of-fact process, but I find approaching this creatively and being willing to express more through a films audio tracks than a straight-forward mix of dialogue, score and sound design can greatly elevate a film’s message and themes.
Game Sound
Considering the player’s agency in the sound design, scoring and audio implementation in a game is an extremely powerful tool that often gets overlooked. Considering the possible variations, evolutions and interruptions according to the players actions is key to developing a special experience.
About
After playing and writing music for over 10 years, I decided to expand my skills into the wider world of audio and began studying a Bachelor of Audio Engineering at SAE Perth. Graduating in 2022, I’m excited to be taking on more composition, production and engineering roles in the realm of music, film, video games and beyond.
I have a particular passion for dramatic and evocative music, specialising in metal and orchestral composition. I find that characterful music is remarkably effective in any medium, and it disappoints me that the easier solution of inoffensive, expectable music has become so much more prolific in modern times. I love working to a brief and the challenge of creating work to a clients’ expectation, and finding ways to imbue my own styles and techniques into genres or forms that aren’t typically approached in these ways.
Likewise, my own music is very important to me, and I continue writing and producing it whenever I have the chance.
